Markoshiki

Lately, I’ve been working on a web app to learn more about JavaScript, jQuery and other technologies that web developers use. This app is available as a web app, on iPhones/iPads and on Android.

Markoshiki is a logic puzzle game, similar to Sudoku, Futoshiki, etc. The user needs to fill the numbers missing from a board, split in four quadrants, which already has some numbers in it.
The rules are simple:

  • Numbers grow in a clockwise direction following the arrows.
  • Consecutive numbers are in the same row or column as the previous number, but in different quadrants.
  • The numbers that are already in the board when you start the game cannot be modified.

For the next version I will focus on making the iOS and Android apps look more native, improve the flow of inserting notes (it’s a bit cumbersome now) and use better the available screen space (including support for landscape mode).

Please play online or install the apps.
If you have any feedback, please let me know at markoshiki@markoshiki.com.

  1. May I suggest a change? When I select “Notes” and create an annotation, the select bar goes back to “insert”. This is a bit confusing/annoying as I use annotations a lot.

Imo, it should stay in Notes unless I change it back to something else.

Affects android and the web app, as far as I could test.

Yes, I agree. In general I don’t like the flow of inserting notes as it’s now. I haven’t implemented anything nicer because I couldn’t find a better way of doing it.
It’s one of the top priorities for the next release.

  3. I liked the game. Thank you for creating it!

Yea, inserting notes is a pain now. My two cents for making it better:

    • The numbers shown in the notes popup can be limited based on quadrant and prev/next rows. (Or these shown bigger at the top.)
    • Selecting/deselecting a number finishes the action and closes the notes popup.

This would be a hint to the user 😉

This would not be ideal because often I find myself inserting multiple notes.
For instance, imagine you finish a line in a quadrant and then move to the next quadrant. In this line there are only two empty spaces. Then you know exactly which two numbers could be there and you want to add both numbers at the same time.

  5. I started relying less and less on notes. I am finishing 4×4 boards in hard level. It is more fun without notes. I will venture into extreme level.

Thanks alot for your cool puzzle.
please design a dark backgroung as well, dark color is more relaxing for mental situations and eye relaxing.
    Good luck,
